Early on in the second season, many of us would do well to remember Steve Sander's beautiful act of selflessness sprung from an almost impossible basketball shot at a Lakers game.
Steve Sanders generously offered to take his best friend Brandon Walsh and Brandon's parents to the game at no cost. When it was discovered that the tickets were switched, Steve offered to remedy the situation by taking his rightful place in the unknowingly randomly-chosen winner's seat.
When stepping up to the half court line in the dead center of the dead silent Laker's Arena, a lot must have been going through his mind. He recently admitted to his own guilt with the recent scandal at West Beverly High, where he was caught attempting to hack the system to change his grades. After admitting that he had possession of the "Legacy Key" which allowed him access to all of the school's doors, he further took the rap by protecting his innocent accessory's name. He got Herbert the rat-tailed flat-topped hacker off the hook, while He threw him self under the bus and received a permanent expulsion.
In spite of all this, Steve Sanders threw the basketball right into the hoop, scoring himself ten thousand dollars. Even though he already has an awesome Corvette sports car and enough money to bribe his high-school's janitor (thus significantly improving the man's lifestyle, no doubt), he took the money graciously and did exactly with it what any of us would NEVER do;
He gave it back to the children of the community.
Steve gave ten thousand dollars to the children of West Beverly High's big brother/big sister program, a program which was on the chopping block due to affluent West Beverly Hills financial strains.
Shortly before sneaking out of his detention dressed as Santa Claus to visit these very children on Christmas later in the season, the fact that he single-handedly threw a basketball and funded the continuation of this program makes Steve Sanders worthy of demagogue status.
